The higher roads in Ramsbottom are still impassable unless you have a 4×4, or a sledge…

One of the best things about living in Manchester is that with an hour and a half of driving you can be in the Lake District (or Wales, or the Yorkshire Dales, or the Peak District, or well, Blackpool…). Getting up there was easy, but all except the main roads were like polished glass helter skelters – solid packed ice and snow. The Audi 4 wheel drive really earned it’s keep getting across to the stone circle at Castlerigg just in time for sunset.

The strange orange shots here were taken late at night at Portinscale marina – Derwent Water was frozen solid. Sunrise the next morning down by the lake in Keswick was disappointingly grey and overcast, with just ducks and other photographers for company.

Christmas eve eve and suddenly it started to snow BIG. We had to run out into the streets to play for a while, before heading for the warmth of the Briton’s Protection for a nightcap. Happy Christmas all.
